Just posting this around the net before I drop it on Craigslist (ugh). Car doesn’t run, has been sitting since 2016. Needs IACV rewired, battery cables, and probably who knows what else from sitting now. 1991 Honda Prelude Si, 2WS, 5-speed manual. 150k miles. Body and interior are decent. Has some rust on the passenger’s side quarter panel. Just need to make room in the garage for my Fiero until I ultimately decide what to do with that as well (it needs even more work than expected, which was already a lot). I’ll take $500 and you have to tow it off my property. Located in Richmond, VA.
Oh cool, Oppo has ads now. Lovely.

That looks nice! I sent it to a buddy who doesn’t live too far away.

If this wasn't on the other side of the county I'd be sending you money right now.

Ooooh. Damn, I do like those. Considering my dad has made zero progress on his Vette in 50 years I doubt asking him to pick it up and fix it for me would work.

Damn, if I had my 4Runner in better shape I’d run out and grab it. Love these Preludes and you never see them anymore by me.

...I tried.
I want it

Ooooh, that E type though.

Ah well. I’ll find a buyer eventually. Won’t take a terrible amount of work to make it drivable again. I just have other projects.
Also, my dad has a 5th gen with a blown engine that he’d let go for free.

I wish this would have come up before I bought my civic. I’d have a K series in this thing and be about at the same cost out of pocket overall. Good luck with the sale, if I had any feasible way of making this work I’d be all over it :(

Grrr. Every prelude I’ve seen out here has been total CP, plus I don’t know how to diagnose or fix anything myself. My van is so boring to drive.
(Not pictured in that mess are the two CRXs and the mid 80s Accord (possibly two Accords?) that actually do run, so he could certainly do me a favor if he wanted to)

I ’ll take it off his hands.

It’s odd, ever since I’ve started getting serious about selling it, area Craigslists have been completely barren of Preludes so I have no idea what to value it at. I’m only listing it for sub-1k because it’s a non-runner, but a few years ago I sold a running automatic one for $800 after it sat for months at $1500, then 1200, then 1000. Even had a few test drivers. This was pre-Radwood, though...

So rusty E Type shell vs questionable Prelude and the difference in value. What have you got?

fuck i want this....

Yo ... tell your dad I said, “’sup.”

My boss was very excited about your car but unfortunately he’s also in CO.

Well, it’s encouraging that once I finally dump it on Craigslist (where I’ll probably list it at $800, just so I can get $500 for it) it hopefully won’t be there long.

I’m legit still thinking about it so don’t Craigslist it just yet please!

Will (not) do. I need to take stock of the spare parts for it anyway.

Two things:
1. Still interested? If not I’ll probably CL it soon. Ideally I’d like it gone by the end of the year.
2. The prison bridge is still occasionally open, with proof :

Oooh, looks as sketchy as ever. Haven’t some of the prisons closed there now? I don’t really keep up.
So...yes, I am still interested but this has been harder than I expected to deal with from here, partly because my parents are both nuts and partly because apparently no one I know has a mechanic they like in Richmond.
I also have a couple questions:
IACV needs rew ired/repaired - guessing this is because that part doesn’t exist so it can’t just be replaced?
You said somewhere that it smokes a little on start up - is this like a, never going to pass emissions level issue or a don’t cold start it in their parking lot and it’s probably alright issue?
And this is the second engine?
Clutch was alright the last time you drove it?
I should be able to send my dad some money and get him to go take a look at it (not that I don’t trust you, more because I’m prone to bad decisions) but I’m still trying to figure out who to pay to fix it for me - or if I can fly home for a few days and do the work with my dad without pissing off his wife too much. Apparently the only mechanic anyone I know has used in the recent past is an ex- boss’s husband and that’s just a bit too awkward.
Anyway, feel free to respond here or my user name at gmail is a valid email address...but if someone signs me up for Trump spam again I’m coming after you first

They were at least partially open on both sides of the river. Saw employees walking around.
I’ll email you later tonight. Kinja’s being Kinja.
